Africa is a region rich in cultural diversity, with growing recognition of the urgent need for data-informed public health interventions – especially in the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). However, systematic surveillance of physical activity (PA) remains limited or non-existent across many African countries. Early career researchers (ECRs) and practitioners in Africa are uniquely positioned to lead innovations in PA measurement, especially within resource-constrained settings. The ISPAH Early Career Network (ECN) is hosting this AFRO-focused webinar to spotlight emerging efforts, share practical experiences, discuss innovative methodologies, and explore pathways for strengthening PA surveillance systems across the continent. The session will also highlight the role of global collaborations and research networks – such as ISPAH and POWER – in building capacity and visibility for African ECRs.
